In times of panic, it's human nature for our brains to go into a fight or flight response. The definition of fight or flight is a physiological reaction that occurs in the presence of something that is terrifying, either mentally or physically. The response is triggered by the release of hormones that prepare your body to either stay and deal with a threat, or to run away to safety. Also known as the "acute stress response", this neurological, yet psychological, response is most common in anxiety disorders. I experience this response pretty much every day of my life. It can fog up your mind and common sense, by trying to avoid the situation. When suffering from any mental illness, your mind is your own worst enemy.
